“Forgotten”, 11x14 inches, colored pencil
Sometimes, I wonder what all of these bolts, screws, and nails used to keep together. Were these part of a car, holding the engine together? Was there a bunk bed that had a couple of these screws holding it together? Small items that are found in the trash and junkyards might not be in use anymore but were necessary at one point. They are forgotten items that no longer have a purpose.
I decided to draw a close up of the pile in order to capture the depth. These aren’t just a few scattered pieces, it’s an entire collection. Imagine how many projects you could finish with just the scraps found in this drawing.
I believe this is also a very real depiction of the wastefulness of humanity. We are constantly upgrading and advancing. Where do all of the old things go? Most of these pieces are usable and strong but they are left here to just sit and get buried into the dirt. Next time you need some parts or tools, check out your local junkyard and take a little walk. I’m sure you’ll find what you need.
